Re: Hitler, Doeniz and the Baltic Sea: Third Reich's Last Hope

Well, I don't know. When I read the book I had some contact with Dr.Grier telling him how good in my opinion the book is and if he would consider doing the same for the german strategy in the mediterranean/southern part of the European theater of operation (Northern Africa, Italy, Balkans and Medite...

Re: Hitler, Doeniz and the Baltic Sea: Third Reich's Last Hope

Panzermahn, Yes this is a very good book. Talking about Schoerner, I know Dr. Grier is currently writing a bio about him. Schoerner was brutal with troops and the way he tried to surrender doesn't had anything positiv to the man. Nevertheless he did a magnificent job with Army group North in 1944 an...

I'm really looking forward for your next book about germany's last battle. Keep on the good work  Note: Yes Grier's book is excellent I remember I...

Re: After Stalingrad by David M. Glantz

Glantz's book on Kursk has terrible mistakes concerning the German side as do other books for which he was responsible for translation like the Lageberichte. What's frustrating about his German mistakes are that they are very common things. He persists in translating Tigerabteilung as Tiger detachm...

Hello,

I think the units in the Kurland pocket officially surrendered the 9th of may. Also I guess the weather station unit was the one in the spitzberg island !?

but in the end, don't you think it is a U-Boot crew that surrendered the last when they reached Argentina ? Just asking ...

Kevin, I think the peak of the soviet army was during summer 1944 too, though if you look closely at this opearation (Bagration) the soviets losses were huge ! And only by soviet standard can it be claimed as a big victory. About the Kurland battles, I highly advise you to read "Hitler, Dönitz&...

The Vistula-Oder operation, in contrast, was more of a battering ram in that it attacked directly into the German defenses with little tactical subtlety & without any deep encirclements. So the Germans were able to effect a fighting withdrawal across Poland back to the Oder Line. While their lo...

I think this division is certainly the most unfortunate inf div of the german army. Why ?

End up in the Stalingrad pocket, then Cherkassy pocket, Kurland pocket and finally Dantzig pocket @{ .. I know of some other inf div wich had a much more relax combat history... :?

Well Richard, the Breslau, Kaukasus, or Könisberg topic would be my choice... :D There are already many things written about the french campaign (at least in french) and north africa. Norway and Finland theater are quite poor too, especially the finnish front.
