Hi Phylo, nope definately not denison smocks... Im a bit of a buff regarding camo uniforms and the brits in the photos im talking about are wearing waffen ss oakleaf pattern reversible winter parkas. Not too much of a problem wearing them when not in contact with the enemy but could create friendly ...

Allied policy regarding usage of captured german clothing
Hi, this might seem like a strange question but I recall seeing a series of photos of british troops burning down buildings in one of the concentration camps in 1945. In the photos is a large group of soldiers watching the proceedings and there are at least 2 brits wearing ss camo winter parkas. A s...

Hi Imad, I suspect that a well organised withdrawel to prepared positions covered by a strong rear-guard may well have been successfull also. Its unfortunate for the whermacht that on this one particular occasion standing fast was successfull - it made Hitler have way too much faith in this archaic ...

Hi , thanks for your reply, yes I concurr with your views, certainly the attritional battles of normandy and operation bagration in the east must have lost the german forces many irreplaceable officers and nco's. Do you think that the german army of 1940 would have had more success (armed with 44 qu...

Flawed German Tactics During Ardennes Offensive 1944
Hi, ive seen several documentaries over the last few months concerning the last major german offensive in the west in the ardennes. From what i can gather from interviews with american vets who were there, many of the german infantry assaults (especially ss for some reason) were of the "human w...

sources of german collectible uniforms
Hi everyone, as german militaria, especially uniforms gets harder and harder to find, i was wondering... What in your views is the main source of german uniforms? what i mean is, pretty much whenever german troops were captured all patches, rank badges etc were ripped off leaving for example a bare ...

Main Causes Of Casualties - Eastern Front
Hi, does anyone know of any publications or reports which detail the main causes of casualties amongst the german armed forces on the eastern front. I assume the higher percentage would be due to artillery fire then small arms.
Just curious....

Close Combat Question
Hi, i remember some time ago, reading an article which said that after the second world war, hundreds of allied troops were interviewed and asked wether they had shot at the enemy with intent to kill in close combat. I cant recall the actual statistics, but the bottom line was that maybe only 15 - 2...

waffen ss recruitment policy
Hi, im curious about how it was decided who went into the regular army as opposed to the waffen ss. If you aspired to being in the waffen ss once you were eligible for service did you have much choice/control as to where you ended up?? Or was it a case that whatever batch of new recruits were availa...
