144 Flak Calibration Platoon

motorized: fully capable of moving at all times. In the case of light guns, these might well be self-propelled.
transportable: capable of being moved in bits and pieces, some motor vehicles.
static: guns probably mounted in fixed positions, no motor vehicles at all.
Reserve: part of the designation (e.g.: "Reserve Flak Regiment")

These have been gathered over the years. I think I have all, but would appreciate any ammendments, corrections, etc. I do not have the gun calibers for all the light batteries/battalions.

WOW :!:

Leo, you have excelled yourself.

It has taken me ages to digest all that info, hence the delay in posting my thanks.

That was all very useful, thank you :D

Just a couple of questions if I may.................

Do you have date of arrival in theatre for FlAK Abt 841 & 805?
(I never knew 805 even existed before today!!)

Did any of the transportable units see any action that you know of?

Once again I find myself in your debt.

Yours humbly........ David.

P.S I assume there was a reason for you not mentioning Fla Abt 190 606 609 & 612.

Also I can confirm that I can add nothing in the way of other FlAK units known to have been in theatre.

I did the listing from, amongst other sources, H.A. Koch's "Flak" and Tessin, various Kriegsgliederung, and a listing of units lost in Tunesia. None, unfortunately, mention arrival dates in theater. And only Luftwaffen units assigned to the Army are indicated in the Kriegsgliederung. Those operating directly under Luftwaffen control would not be listed there. Have to wait for Jentz' further works on North Arfrica for convoy data indicating units transported.

lei.Flak-Abt 805 - my notes indicate 41-42 in North Africa under 102. Flak-Rgt at Benghasi. [No idea where I found this anymore - like I said, the files are a bit dusty.] Note, however, Tessin and Michael Holm disagree, stating it was in Greece the whole time.
lei.Flak-Abt 841 - 3.41 to Africa

I'm sure all the Flak units saw "action" - the entire North African coast was under some sort of attack (air, naval, ground) at one time or another. Although I take it you probably mean ground action. Which I don't know.

By FlaAbt you no doubt mean Fla-Bataillon 190 606 609 & 612. These were not Luftwaffen (Airforce) but Heer (Army) units. Hence I did not mention them. We did those a while ago, remember?

Cheers

Leo.

Ah yes! I remember now, Heer = Battalion. Luftwaffe = Abteilung.

No, by way of "action" I was refering to air defence of other ground units, rather than air defence of Towns, airfields, ports, supply dumps etc. The latter I assume would have been defended by the static units.

Thanks for your research. Dave.

P.s would it be right, in assuming that doctrinaly, Luftwaffe FlAK units would defend "places" & that Heer FlAK units would defend other ground units. Or is this an over simplification?
