I./253 (253rd Infantry Div.) Any Info.?

I have recently come across a an "Early First Model Luftwaffe Dagger" in my Grandfathers belongings from WWII. He left them in Italy when he came to the USA and they were just sent to me. I have placed it in with the correct place and date of manufacturing and time of issuing, but I am trying to identify the owner who etched his initials in it. Does anyone know where I could find information about enrolled soldiers in the 4th Army, 253rd Infantry? Or was anyone in it? I would love to return it to the owner or his family!
