6.SS-Gebirgs-Division 'NORD'

The history of the division Nord, working for about four years on the Finnish Lapland , in a long war of position hard and exhausting , in a constant struggle against the aggressive Soviet forces . On that front, no major battles took place , but the forces in the field were equally engaged in a tough fight , first against the harsh environment and then against the enemy. After a bad trial offer on the front of Salla by departments of the North , in the summer of 1941 , where SS soldiers suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Soviet units well entrenched in their positions and better trained , the division was reinforced with new elements and above was transformed into a real mountain division , receiving adequate equipment and armament , thus being able to effectively counter the enemy offensive and keep the conquered positions until 1944. After the signing of the armistice between Finland and the Soviet Union in the summer of 1944 , the division had to leave the territory of Finland and repair in Norway. After being transferred to Denmark, the SS units took part in Operation Nordwind , the last German offensive on the Western Front , fighting valiantly against the American units and earning the respect of the same enemy. They followed the tough defensive fighting on the front of the Moselle, Rhine and on German territory , until the surrender in May 1945 . Departments of the division fought until the end, always with courage and valor , even when the fortunes of war were now marked , distinguishing himself as one of the best German units engaged on the Western Front . To signal a rich set of appendices, with some interesting reports written after the war by the same division commanders , from the archives of the American military.
