It seems to me, from my readings, that the Waffen SS acquired officers from the Junkerschulen. With the number of officers in the Waffen SS, it seems to me that that source would be inadequate to fill the needs of the service. Anecdotaly, I have heard that some EM were allowed to remain with the troops and get their commission by proving themselves in the field. Is this the case? What were the various ways in which an enlisted man could become an officer and was there a parallel in the Heer?
