Infanterie Regiment was part of the 395. Infanterie Division.
Check out the following links:

Infanterie Regiment 723 was part of 719. Infanterie Division. Check out the following links:

In September 1944, the 719. Inf. Div. was part of LXXXVIII Korps, 1. Fallschirm Armee, Heeresgruppe B and located near Antwerpen.

Hope this helps.

Hi Hugo,
When your Grandfather was part of the Stab 11 Kompanie of the 723 Rgt that was part of the 719 I.D. (and not II./723 because the II was a Batalion and part of the other Rgt. of the 719 I.D.) stationed at the Island of De Beer (The Germans called it U.A. De Beer), This island was the Southern part of the "Festung Hoek van Holland" was one most Beautifull (for me as Fortificationenthoutiast) of the Atlantikwall.
The HQ 723 Regiment was stationed in the Staelduinsche Bos (a forest on the east side of Hoek van Holland).
Your Grandfather was stationed at; Stp. XIII HM, the Stützpunkt was defended by the 11./723, the Kompanie also had their HQ there.
They had to defend the Stp. as Infanterists, the other unit in the Stp. was 4./M.Fl.A.813 (4th Batterie of the Marine Flak Abteilung 813) the Stp was also known as Batterie Stellung ''Briel'' and was armed with 10.5cm Flak.
Do you have any pictures of him?
Friends of me are volunteers at a Atlantikwallmuseum at Hoek van Holland, maybe you can help them with your pictures.
Sadly you can't visit the place where your Grandfather was stationed, everyting (the whole island) changed in the harbourinstallations of the Europoort.
The bunkers and the other fortifications were built to protect the soldiers that had to defend the harbourentrance of Rotterdam, at that time one of the most important harbours of the world.
If you want to come to Hoek van Holland and to be shown around the fortifications build there, i invite you hereby!
Greetings Jack.

Beeringenbridge at the Albert Canal was kept open to retreve as much German soldiars and material comming from France as possible.
There was just a thin line of defence hastely put in place along the Albert Canal, actually more an observer line.
