Hi Bart,
why did You take the KC of Wilhelm Wolf as the first in Your enumeration? Especially concerning the Heer You should know that the "award process" took a while. I´m so skilled, but let me remark, that Ritter Hans von Schmidt was awarded because of his battlefield victories with the 546th IR south of Charkow in May 1942. Division Commander Jaenecke got it soon after sending thousands of his men in horrible fire: http://www.389id.de/Personen/Jaenecke/Jaenecke.htm . And Hörning, Reinhard , Hauptmann d.R., Kdr I./Gren.Rgt 546 got it 22.08.1943 posthum. He died a few days after the storm on Stalingrad inner circle. All the had been commanders of my grandpa. He got no KC. But he survived.

Because he was as first to be awarded the KC in or near Stalingrad in one of the units which took part in the Battle for Stalingrad.

Thanks for the information on Ritter Hans von Schmidt. Jaenecke wouldn't be to first to send thousands of men in horrible fire. When they are awarded the RK posthum it will be mentioned, this list is an example who was awarded it. I'm busy with seperated pages to who got it posthum , as getting a rank posthum.

I'm interested in stories or information from you grandpa, if ever want to share info, i'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Yes Bart,
I´m still investigating. But I still told You that he received the KC for leading his brave!!! IR 546 during the attack on the soviet winterpositions. That is not perfectly correct, because the attacks began by the soviet troops. His regiment south of Charkow retreated first to get better positions and in an brave attack they overran the soviet positions which included the destruction of the soviet tanks. This was the "Feuertaufe" (baptism of fire) of the new formed regiment.
