thanks.

Hi,

I don't know what periode you are looking for but the 216th was in Russia near Rzhew and Spass-Demensk from januari ‘42 until February ‘43

The 216 ID arrived near Yuchnow (south east of Wjasma) in january 42. The I. Batalion of IR 348 and the III batalion of IR 396 where involved in January in the closing of the Gap in the frontline just north west of Rshew.

And as far is i know the rest of the ID was in the area between Yuvhnow and Spass-Demensk. Between februari and mai 1942 they were near Milyatino just north east of Spass-Demensk when they leaved the area for Orel.

In December 42 they returned to Spass-Demensk between December and in february they moved north between Systschewka and Ossuga.

At the and of February 43 the Division was pulled out of the area.

regards,

Erik

Hello to all :D; taking advantage of this old thread...

The 216. Infanterie Division - Summer 1941.

With the start of the western campaign on May 10, 1940, the Division remained as a reserve of the 6th Army and then reached the German front in the Antwerp area. In late May the division took part in the Battle of Dunkirk, advancing up the Channel coast east of Furnes and Adiokerke.

During the second phase of the campaign, the "Battle of France", the division was OKH reserve and marched behind the front towards Paris. The division then moved to the Cherbourg area and took over coastal protection. From May 1941 the division was in the Argentan - St. Lô area. In the summer of 1941, the garrison of the 216. ID was located in Bagnoles. Any idea where the infantry regiments were deployed?

Hello to all :D; more......................

The 216. Infanterie Division - 1941/1942.

Partisan Operations Lokot - Summer 1942.

On the way from Roslavl to Lokot.

On July 1, 1942, the battalion (Pi. Btl. 216) was loaded in Rosslavl for transport towards Lokot south of Bryansk. Army vehicles were switched to panje wagons, so much larger loading space was required. After a journey from 14:00 to 22:00 hours Bryansk was reached. Here the battalion remained parked in the wagons at the train station.

On July 2nd, the wagons were reinforced against infantry fire with hay, straw and sacks of oats. Machine guns and rifles pointed on both sides of the wagons. So the journey continued in the morning. The train arrived in Brassowo at around 10:30 hours without any incidents. The battalion was unloaded and moved into accommodation: headquarters and 2nd company in Rasoshka, 1st company in Snitkino and 3rd company in Nikolayevskoye. The light pioneer column that arrived on July 5, 1942 came to Brassowo-Süd.

Hello to all :D; more......................

The 216. Infanterie Division - 1941/1942.

Partisan Operations Lokot - Summer 1942.

The enemy (partisan units) with about 100 men were based in the towns of Krapyeva, Sheshuyeva and Altukhyovo, from where they carried out operations to blow up the Bryansk - Kursk railway line near Pogreby and Vessely Kut. The area around Krapyeva and Sheshujewa had been mined by the enemy. The battalion set up two scouting parties to clarify the enemy situation:

Scout troop 1 was formed by the 1st company with a strength of 1 officer, 2 non-commissioned officers and 8 pioneers. The task was to explore the area west of the railway line near Pogreby at a depth of two kilometers. The operation, which started from Borschtschevo, did not lead to any contact with the enemy.

Scout troop 2 was formed by the 2nd company with a strength of 1 officer, 2 non-commissioned officers and 8 pioneers. The task was to explore the area west of the railway line near Pogreby at a depth of two kilometers. The operation, which was started from the railway junction 1 km west of Pogreby, did not lead to any contact with the enemy.

Both reconnaissance patrols primarily explored the terrain for future operations.

Hello to all :D; more......................

The 216. Infanterie Division - 1941/1942.

Partisan Operations Lokot - Summer 1942.

Unternehmen “Grünspecht”.

Stronger partisan forces had occupied and fortified the towns of Igrizkoye, Szeletschnja, Lugany and Wojna for weeks. The rapid detachment therefore had the task of taking these places. The task for the Pioneer Battalion 216 was to reach the town of Logirewka and take the Lebetka forestry lodge. The forest was then to be occupied in a southeasterly direction to prevent the partisans from escaping to the west.

Bobrik was reached at 09:00 hours. In order not to warn the enemy prematurely, the battalion stayed here for the time being. At around 17:00 hours three planes Do-17 bombed the town of Logirewka. The population suffered losses and a panic-like flight arose. The local militia was persuaded to take part in the German operation.

At 00:30 hours the battalion set out in complete darkness and reached Logirewka at 01:15 hours. The battalion command post was set up in the school there. At 02:00 hours the 2nd company marched westwards through the forest towards Lebedka. The 3rd Company walked along the edge of the forest to reach the site from the east. Only weak enemy defenses were found by both companies, which immediately withdrew to the northeast.

The place was deserted and both companies reached it at the same time. It was already burned down at a previous operation. During further action, around 100 cows were seized 2 km to the southwest. A reporting rider coming from the south was captured. At around 08:00 hours, some partisans fleeing from Igrizkoye to the northwest came under fire from the edge of the forest that had now been reached.

In a forest camp on the edge of the wood, several rifles, heavy and light machine guns, large quantities of infantry ammunition, a 122 mm gun, around 500 rounds of artillery ammunition and a Russian field kitchen were captured. At the same time that the order was fulfilled, came the order to march back.
