No Jeff, the differences between establishments were accounted for by the differences in sub units present or absent, and application of different KStN's.

There was never much uniformity. Adds to the fascination with this subject.

That clears it up. I guess the establishment figures you gave were the "ideal" for a theoretical panzer division that had all its subordinate units present.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that each pz div would be so different. I already knew none of their reconaissance battalions were identical.

PD's on Eastern Front were tidier and stronger. Adolf thanked Guderian for his efforts. This is how I rated PD's 1Jan45, which is purely a personal opinion. I don't have returns for PGD's except PGD HG2. Last return for 13PD was 1Dec44 when it was being rebuilt.

Strongish - 5, 7, 16, 17, 19, 20, 23, PGD GD, PD HG1, PGD HG2.

Medium to Strong - 3, 4, 6, 8, 14, 25, 3SS, 5SS

Medium - 1, 12, 24

In my opinion, based upon report Dec 1944/Jan 1945, 3rd SS and 25th should be in strongest list while 23rd in medium. If HG 2 was strongest, 10th, 18th and 20th PG were strongest too.

Hi, Roger , as you have return for PG division HG 2 on Jan 1 1945, could you tell me the exact organizaton of its artillery regiment ( total or operational) ? Apart from Grille, any towed 15 cm sIG for HG 2 ? I will appreciate if you could give me some ideas.

On paper, GD PanzerGrenadier Division was the larger one. Its Panzer Regiment had third Panzer abteilung equipped with Tiger tanks, Its Panzergrenadier and Panzerfusilier regiment also had third infantry battalion. Apart from infantry battalions, PG regiment would have one pionier kompanie and one self-propelled infantry gun kompanie equipped with Grille, But GD had more, she had extra self-propelled Flak kompanie with AA half track and self-propelled Pak kompanie with Marder in its two PG regiments. Its Panzer-Artillerie Regiment also had extra - Fourth artillery battalion : 10.5 cm howitzer battalion. Normally, Panzer Pionier bataillon should have three pionier kompanies but she had four pionier kompanie, two of which were armored.
