Hello!
I would like to find some information about the origins of the German schutzmütze - the early headgear for the panzer crewmen.
It must have evolved already in the late 1920s, what was used as basis for the design? When was it accepted for German use, etc.
Please help!
Thanks in advance,

Panzer Headgear
According to Dr Kleitmann's 'Feldgrau' magazine series, from the 1960s, the schutzmütze was introduced for tank crews to replace the padded-helmet/beret when it became clear that the helmet/beret made it very difficult to wear communication headphones. Communication equipment comprised a pair of padded-headphones and a throat-microphone; the headphones were fairly large and the helmet interfered with their wear.
