Sicherheitsdienst Polizei Unit ID Stamps: NEED HELP

Post by esquire93 »

Have a Kar98 AZ rifle with the following Unit/Property identification stamp burned into the buttstock: Sich. Pol. bck. Sobw.
I have a feeling this was a barracks or camp where this rifle was in the weapons arsenal. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks...

If you have misread the "Sobw", and it actually should be Sobibor, you have a rifle that was used at that infamous KZ!

Sobibor Wald

Post by esquire93 »

Have received information that the correct German parlance at the time for Sobibor KZ was "Sobibor Wald". The camp was actually outside the town in a wooded area...hence the use of the word "Wald" in the official name. Could "Sobw." be an abbreviation for Sobibor Wald? If anyone else has seen this abbreviation used anywhere, please let me know.

Thanks...
