Just out of curiosity, Being reading up on the Australian 6th div and the Battle of Bardia, and there is some indication's that the battle contributed politically towards the US passing the lend lease act. Just curious on a few points,
- Is it true?
- How much did it contribute?
- and what was the American public reaction towards the victory at Bardia?
Looking forward to getting information from those more knowledgeable then me.
Cheers, von_noobie

Re: Lend Lease contribution
Roosevelt, the U.S.president who never met a communist or socialist he did not like , had been chomping at the bit to participate in the war, even before the U.S. was official at war with the axis. This was the only way he could save is so called New Deal scheme, and provide jobs and economic advances for the people he had so skillfully hoodwinked.
The Lend - lease act provided another opportunity to enhance his guided economy, and provide his buddy Stalin with a way to be able to win his part of the war.
Without the help of the U.S.A. , Soviet Russia would have fallen flat on its face.
Just my opinion. (can you tell that I am not an admirer of Mr. R. ? )

Re: Lend Lease contribution
Definitely an admirer you are Though I'm sure we all admire Mr. R a bit, But I'm afraid you may actually be wrong about the real amount of aid the Lend Lease gave Russia seeing as I've heard accounts of stock piles of Lend Lease equipment sitting at the Ports because it wasn't liked by the Russian troop's. i believe there was a former subject on this, Either here or at forum.axishistory.com that debated it's usefulness for certain countries, Ill try and dig it up.
