Hello to all :D; more follows..............

The assault against the position of the Albert Canal - May of 1940.

3. Fall Gelb - May 1940.

3.2. The advance of the The IR 151 and the Pi Btl 51.

May 11 of 1940.

The 14. / IR 151 (Hauptmann Hauboldt) succeeded in crossing the Albert Canal with its antitank guns and headed towards the village of Eben Emael; by 10:00 hours it had begun the firefight with the works of the fort. As the III. / AR 161 was ready to receive fire missions, Oberstleutnant Melzer decided to launch a coordinated assault against the fortress. The 4 Pz would support the assault reaching the line 120 - Heukelom at 12:00 hours. At 12:00 hours the regimental Engineers Platoon (Pi Zug IR 151) with its horse-drawn vehicles crossed the bridge of Maastricht in the midst of an armored division in advance (3 Pz).

At 12: 30 hours the battalions I. and III. / IR 151 crossed the Channel while the II. / IR 151 without resistance seized the town of Eben Emael. In the northern corner of the fort developed an intense fight, but when the anti-tank guns of Hauptmann Hauboldt reduced works 17 and 35 approached the 1. / Pi 51. The assault was supported by an air strike by the Stukas. At 11:30 hours the 6. / IR 151 launched their assault and at 13:00 hours won the ground’s dominant feature in that area. At 12:00 hours the antitank reduced works 3, 6 and 4, allowing to reach the plateau of the fortress and to capture the works 26 and 31.

At 13:30 hours sounded a trumpet on the access door No. 3 and the Belgians offered the surrender of the place. A Belgian officer and the trumpeter with a flag of truce negotiated the surrender in the semi-destroyed bridge at Canne, while the access bridge to the fort remained down and by it the sappers rushed inside, capturing the first 200 prisoners of the nearly 1200 that were taken there.

Hello Tigre, a very welcome lecture again!

I was always interested about forts, and visited Fort Eben Emael last year.
Maybe you like this webpage and the pictures, some pictures show the gliders
at Köln Ostheim and Butzweilerhof, and some show the returning Fallschirmjäger.
