That is is really true. For example, when the Finnish volunteer SS- battalion - later III.(finn.)/Nordland, 5.SS-div. "Wiking", had reached the end of their training, the High-ranking officer, who came to inspect their war-ableness was from Wehmacht, not from Waffen-SS.

Btw, the Inspector stated that the enlisted men and NCOs were ready, but the junior German SS-officers needed extra tactical and leading trainig, which delayed the Btl's transfer to the front over a Month! :shock:

P.S. It woud be interesting to know the crew of heavy MG's and what is not well known - at least for me - the organisation of a MG. Btln., i.e. SS-MG.Bln. Finland in 1944 ( or was it Lappland?)
