I was at a World War 2 Meeting last fall. A retired Lt. Colonel mentioned one night when was still a LT. they spotted a small group of Germans coming across a field. The Americans were on patrol and close to the front lines.

They stopped the German group, then the Officer with the Germans said he was a Veterinarian and they were going to treat some wounded or ill horses and nothing more.

The Lt. really did not have the men to take them back to Head Quarters so he allowed the Veterinarian and his assistants to continue on.
Sincerely yours,
PA.Dutchman

Hello PA :D; interesting, I think there were a lot of this kind of truce among the combatants at low level. Thanks for sharing it. Raúl M 8).

In the photo captioned 'the team rider and horse...' (back on page 1 of this thread, sorry), I noticed the beautiful sabre he's carrying. It's a 1796 pattern Light Cavalry Sabre and was used primarily by the British Light Dragoons and Hussars along with the King's German Legion light cavalry during the Napoleonic Wars. It was adopted by the Prussians as the 1811 pattern or Blücher sabre and was used by Portuguese and Spanish cavalry.

It would look very nice in my collection!

More great photos! Does anyone have any pics of Bereiterinnen, the Female Horse Breakers? I found some on axis history forum and sparked my intrest (mainly my Finacee's) as it would make for a interesting living history impression.

Cheers,
