I'm still having trouble in getting the scan to fit onto this page in the forum. Any suggestions to rectify this would be gratefully accepted.

Here is what I could read.

Afrika 28. 1. 1942
Liebe Eri,
Ihren Brief aus Singen habe ich noch
in Italien erhalten, wofür ich Ihnen
recht herzlich danke.
Inzwischen hat sich mein Wunsch nun er-
füllt. Gestern wurden wir mit Transport-
flugzeuge rübergeflogen. Dies war zugleich
mein erster Flug, denn bisher hatte ich
aus beruflichen Gründen noch keine Gelegenheit
zu fliegen. Allerdings war das Flugwetter nicht
sehr zu unseren Gunsten, denn auf See hatten
wir schwer mit dem Wind zu kämpfen.
Zuvor konnten wir noch 3 schöne Tage auf
Sizilien verbringen.
Augenblicklich liegen wir in der Nähe einer
größeren Stadt in der Wüste. Heiß ist es
augenblicklich noch nicht so sehr.
Wenn Sie mein Brief erreicht werden Sie
wohl fest in Ihrer Arbeit stecken.
Ist Ihre Mutter inzwischen genesen, oder ist
sie immer noch krank.
In Singen war ich auch schon einige Male,
es ist ein ganz nettes Städtchen.

Sollte ich hier einem Leutnant Weber gegegnen,
werde ich ihn selbstverständlich von Ihnen grüßen.
Hier müssen Sie mir dann die Feldpostnummer in
Ihrem nächsten Briefe mitteilen und evtl. auch die
Waffengattung.
Wenn ich mich recht entsinne, vergaß ich in
meinem letzten Brief, Ihnen für das nette Bildchen
zu danken, was ich hiermit wiederholen möchte.
Bin nun gespannt, wann wir hier eingesetzt werden.
Es ist aber anzunehmen, dass es in Bälde der
Fall sein wird.

Dear Eri,
your letter from Singen I received still in Italy,
for which I thank you very much.
In the meantime my wish came true.
Yesterday we were flown across with a
transportation airplane. This was my first flight
at the same time, as I had no chance to fly so far
because of professional reasons.
However, the flight weather was not very much on our side,
because we had a hard time fighting the wind at Sea.
Before, we were able to spent 3 nice days in Sicily.
Right now we lie near a bigger town in the desert.
It is not too hot right now.
When my letter reaches you, you probably
will be deep in work.
Did your mother get well in the meantime,
or is she still sick.
I have been to Singen several times already,
it is a pretty nice little town.

Should I run into a Leutnant Weber,
I will definitely tell him hello from you.
Then you do have to tell me the field post number
in your next letter, and possibly the branch, too.
If I remember right, I forgot in my last letter to thank you
for the nice picture, which I herewith would like to repeat.
I am curious, when we will be deployed here.
It is assumed that it will be soon the case.
