Hi Richard. How good is the book? I mean from a historiographical point of view. How does it compare with other accounts of Operation Mercury?

It's a very good first-hand account of Fallschirm operations - and from a middle-ranking commander; there aren't too many of those. It's not as vivid as say Pöppel (although his account of Crete is pretty brief) or as good as Ringel's Hurra die Gams. It's a decade or so since I read it, but the fact that there aren't too many references to it here: http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=8524 is a reasonable indicator that it's good but not that good. (Apologies in advance for a shockingly bad account of the invasion of Crete...) :(

I'd suggest getting an inter-library loan to test the water.

Why not write a book about it to fill the lacunae?

A book about Crete? If I do it, I'll do it as part of a Balkan campaign book, but it's not really a top priority project. :(

Heinz Landau's Goodbye Transylvania could really use a reprint, but it doesn't sound like the publisher is up for it.

The end of the year is fast approaching with no sign of "Das Reich V". Early 2009 is long past.
I'm currently rereading "Das Reich III" I should finish "Das Reich IV" before the end of the year.
Also working on finishing my 2nd SS army for FoW, about 8000 pts worth.

Looks like "Early 2009" on the JJF site is a farce.
Looks like maybe 2010 for "Das Reich V"

Anyone know if "Moscow Tram Stop" (I think it is by Knapp) is going to be reprinted? Barely find originals let alone a reprint.

Heinrich Haape. Real shame no-one has reprinted (perhaps someone could have a word with Stackpole) because it's an excellent book. Reprinted many times in Germany where you can pick up a copy for under 10 Euros. Alas, I've never seen an English translation for under £100. :(

Looks like end of 2010.
This has me questioning multi-volume sets in the future for me. JJF has been painfully slow with this series with delay after delay.

Is anyone aware of an upcoming reprint of Hunnicutt's work of the Sherman?

Re: Out-of-Print Book Updates: Demyansk

Postby Lexxx » Mon Jun 06, 2011 1:21 pm

After a several year delay, Demyansk by Russ Schneider has finally been republished and is available on Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/Demyansk-Tales-Ru ... 383&sr=8-1

It is my understanding from the author's family that a second edition of Russ Schneider's initial collection of Eastern Front short stores, Madness Without End" will be republished soon.
