marschbataillon or marsch-bataillon

Post by Nicole »

Can anybody say to me what is a "marschbataillon" (in 1944)? What is difference with a bataillon? It is a grouping of different units?

Hello

A "Marschbataillon" is just a temporary formation which organises the transport of replacements etc.. to the front near area. There a Marschbataillon dismisses the soldiers to their ordered unit. It is no combat or supply formation just a interim solution to have a control over reconvalescent or new soldiers until they are in the area of their unit.

There is not anything common therefore with a group of soldiers of step of the French army of Africa (bataillon de marche africain)?
