Differentiating uniforms of infantry Officers and Schütze

Postby TFlames » Tue Feb 06, 2007 11:25 am

Hey guys,

sorry if this a bit of a newbie question, but what tended to be the differences between the uniforms of non-officer infantrymen and the officers? In WWII movies or games you would usually see the soldiers wearing helmets and infantry officers wearing a Schirmmütze. Aside from smaller decorations is this accurate?

Hello

Officers also wear helmets in combat and normal soldiers also had a Schirmmütze (with slight differences not easily seen on b/w photographs).

The main difference is the collar insignia and the shoulder strap which indicates the exact rank
Enlisted collar. Shoulder strap in combination with rank chevron indicates rank

Here on my site you see what insignia shows which rank

Additionally the officer tunics were tailored a little bit different and of better quality.
