Bundeswehr KIA in Afghanistan

Postby Jason Pipes » Wed Jan 09, 2008 12:13 am

These somber pictures are a little old being from mid-2005, but I think they show both the sacrifice modern Germans are making in the War on Terror as well as some of the traditional elements of their military that still remain some 60 years after the end of WWII.

COLOGNE, GERMANY - JUNE 29, 2005: Soldiers from the German Bundeswehr carry the flag-draped coffin of two Bundeswehr soldiers recently killed in Afghanistan upon their arrival June 29, 2005 in Cologne, Germany. The two soldiers were killed when munitions they were transporting exploded. Germany has a strong military peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan. (Photo by Alexander Heimann/Getty Images)

Hi Jason,

Nice photo's. I presume they are carrying K98's? Little fuzzy there, also, their belt buckles look very similar. Good to see some traditions being carried on.

Slightly OT, but, in the first pic, check out the guy third from the left...his belt is all over the place. A day in the guardroom for that man...

Cheers,
Jock
