Panzer identification by serial number ?

Post by Dale »

Hello all - I am looking to confirm a panzer type, year, or any other information that may be available using a serial(?) number.
I am researching/completing a book - the story of Dr. Günter Polzin - he served exclusively with s.Pz.Abt.503.
In a diary entry of his he lists his panzer as being #76387.
I think this refers to his Pz.III, turret number 234 and probably around January 1943...

I don't know if this info can be researched any further - or confirmed...

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it !!
thanks,
Dale

Dale, according to Ron Klages's monograph on the Tiger, "Trail of the Tiger", s Pz Abt 503 received 31 x Pz III Ausf N. Checking in "Pz III and IV and their derivatives" by Chamberlain and Doyle, the chassis number you posted would fit into those given to Ausf N which they say were between 76101 and 77800.
