Looking for information about kampfgruppe BA-BA

Post by Prosper Vandenbroucke »

Hello gentleman,
I'm traying to identify the Kampgruppe BA-BA.
Is there somebody able to give me the name of this Kampgruppe, or the name of the commander?
As far as I can understand the german language, BA-BA stand for the name of the commander of this Kampfgruppe.
I just know that the Kampgruppe was at the Eastern Front in march 1944.
Here below you will found an little article in german language, in which is writing about this Kampgruppe.

Many thanks in advance and please apoliges for my poor english, but like you can see I am writing from Belgium and I do my best in using my school english and that is far away

I can tell you a couple of things from these documents. First, I think they are descriptions of photographs. I say this becaus A. Ahrens (August Ahrens) was a Bildberichter (photographer) for the SS-Kavalerie. Second the paragraphs read like photograph descriptions.
The first one tells us the it is probably a photograph of a group of men of "KG BA-BA", it then goes on to tell us that this is not an official name but created by the men of the KG, BA-BA being an abbreviation of the commanders name. It also tells us that they have been mentioned several time in the Wehrmachtsbericht, and that they perform very well on defense and offense. They also fought well in swampy areas,
The second paragraph should be the description of a soldier who is the head of a cavalry squadron of a cavalry regiment of the SS, and that he is looking at the enemy area, perhaps with binoculars.

So, I guess you should be looking for a KG, probably SS, that fought on the Ostfront in swampy areas and was mentioned multiple times in the Wehrmachtsbericht. The KG was probably active in the late winter/early spring 1944.

Unless I am reading these totaly wrong.

Hi John,
I just receive an answer from my friend.
Your right when you are talking about photograph descriptions .
And you are also right when you think that those pictures were made by an SS Kriegsberichter.
The pictures are in the archives of the National Museum of Contemporary Hystory of Slovenia.
Unfortunly and for evident raisons of copyright they can't be published into forums on the web.
Sorry for that.
I thank you again for your answer and I wish you a Merry Xmas and an happy New Year
Regards
