Germany Army Officer Requirements & Training

Post by Frundsberg13 »

Hi All,

In contrast to becoming an Officer in the American Army Infantry in 1941, I would like to find out what the requirements to become an Officer in the Heer Infanterie were.

Education?
Social Status?
What was the process to become an Officer?
Once accepted, what was the course of study? (Text Books, field exercises)
What was a typical day like?

If anyone can suggest a Book Title that might answer my questions, please let me know. I own a collection of materials from a
US Army Officer who kept every scrap of paper from his training at the Ft. Benning Infantry School and, I was curious what his education and training was like for his counterpart in the German Army Infantry. This Officer became a Platoon and then later Company Commander in an Infantry Division.

Perhaps someone has a reading list, entrance requirements or, training subject list. If someone knows of a book by a veteran that details his daily life in Officer Training Schools, please let me know.

I appreciate every scrap of information!

Thank you,
