Officers' marking

Post by TPMM »

Officers in Wehrmacht used to have "callsigns", like IA - Chief of Staff and so on.
My question would be:
Had an officer "for special assignments" his own marking/callsign or he was to special to have one?

Hello!

These abbreviations (Stabsabteilungsnummern) indicated the current position of this officer. They were not like 'callsigns' and were only given to officers serving in a staff (division level or higher). So officers on a "special assignment", whatever that could have been, would not be given got any of those "Stabsabteilungsnummern".

best regards
