Hello,
I have a question regarding the organisation of a Rifle Platoon of the German Heer. So far I have the following information:
Platoon Headquarters
- 2 Officers with SMGs (MP40?)
- 6 Grenadiers with G98 Rifle
3x Infantry Squad
- 2 Officers with SMGs (MP40?)
- 7 Grenadiers with G98 Rifles
- 1 Grenadier with LMG (FG42?)
Is this correct and if so, what ranks did the officers have that led the Platoon HQ and the individual squads? Also, I know that in the US Army Squads would sometimes be split up into two fire teams, each led by an NCO, would the same be true for German Rifle squads? And finally, were there several jobs (eg radio operator, medic, messenger &c.) for the soldiers in the Platoon HQ?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Jase
EDIT: Just thought of something else I'd like to know, what sort of equipment did Grenadiers have besides their Rifles? Grenades and Mausers I suppose, but I'm not sure.

Re: Question regarding Heer Rifle Platoon organisation
Hello
Have a look into the KStN section of my site
http://chrito.users1.50megs.com/kstn/kstnmain.htm
There you see the detailed organisation of companies within the various changes. They will answer your questions.
On the left you see the rank group letters (M, G, O etc.. ) which are also explained on my site.
