This division found itself in the bag southeast of Minsk the first week of July 1944. With about 50 stugs and selfpropeled AT guns tried to break encirclement to the northwest and at least some of their memebers succeded, for example the commander Paul Schuermann and also the commander of the 5th Panzer battalion Regenitter. Meanwhile most if not all the rest of the commanders of the encircled divisions and korps were captured or killed in the attempt

Survivors were used to man the recently created Panzer Brigades, but most would have been convalescents returning to the unit -I guess-.

Is there any account of the escape attempt and how an where did the escapees meet with the german frontline ??
