Do you mean the elite (Nazi) school Landeschulpforta just outside Naumburg in Sachsen-Anhalt?

9th Cadet Prep Corps, Cadet School, Naumburg

Post by k-pp »

A google search suggests Manteuffel was with the 9th Cadet Prep Corps, which has nothing to do with Landeschulpforta.

The following is taken from the Naumburg website http://www.naumburg.de/

"Naumburg, a Garrison Town

The beginnings of Naumburg's role as a garrison town can be traced back to the early decades of Prussian rule. In the mid-nineteenth century a horse battalion of the Magdeburg Field Arrtillery Regiment was stationed in Naumburg which stayed until the turn of the century.

During that time new barracks, military buildings and drill grounds were built to replace the old ones. The 2nd Thuringian Field Artillery Regiment No. 55, a machine-gun company and a bicycle company (1913) were also based here. After the end of the 2nd World War, Naumburg became a garrison town of the Red Army. That era ended with Germany's reunification, and in 1993 the CIS (formerly Soviet) Army finally withdrew its soldiers, abandoning the barracks which had become dilapidated over the years.

The withdrawal of the Soviet troops marked the end of Naumburg's status as a garrison town. The only remaining military compound, the Cadet School on Kösener Straße, is now being used by the Bundeswehr as a language school."

On a personal note, Naumburg is a beautiful, walled town. Well worth visiting. The Allies got one bombing run in towards the end of the war, but missed the town centre (I believe the bombs cut across the cemetery), so it's very well preserved.
