Need an expert's help!

Post by Gudzonio »

Hi dear philatelists!
I need an expert's help.
I get many stamps as gradnpa's inheritance and want to know their value.
His uncle gave him these stamps as a present about 65 years ago.
I know that some of them are really unique and cost much money and there is no doubt that such collection is really a

treasure for the right person!
Does anybody help me to determine the value of these stamps?

I have uploaded some pictures to the web. Please go through the links to see it:

My suggestion is to obtain a copy of Michel's Deutschland Spezial Katalog. Every issue is listed together with the known varieties.

As in anything collectible, condition is always a concern. Stamps with missing perfs, corners and thins will be worth a fraction of what a better condition stamp is. Be prepared to be disappointed.

The issues you have shown that I am familiar with such as the Böhmen und Mähren issues and the Zeppelin stamps are common and not worth a fortune. Although one of the zeppelin stamps is a perfin variety that might be of interest to a specialist. Again, condition is definitely your enemy. The value of this lot you have shown is largely due to the fact that it has passed down your family into your hands. Seldom does sentimental value translate into money value. Sad.

The best thing to do would be to sit down with the aforementioned Katalog and do your homework. It might be rewarding to do so.

Good luck.

The other option is to find a reputable stamp dealer who specialises in this area who will value the collection. You might have to leave the collection with the dealer but if you are uncomfortable with that then Gudzonio's suggestion is a good idea.

here's another idea for ya

it is almost impossible to find a "reputable" dealer,...........remember,....they make a living off of what they make by buying, and selling, your stuff. another way to look at it,...........if they are wearing a rolex, driving a new mercedes,........live in a big house on the hill,..........they got there by making lots of money from their stuff,.............
if they are driving a log wagon, drawn by mules, then whatever they offer you, take it, cause they are going to loose money on it...........
here's the idea.
go to the public library, and find the stamp collecting section. then look for a scott catalog, on foreign stamps. there might be specific ones for german stamps, i dont know.
then, see what they are worth in there. but, like the other guy said, damaged stamps and stamps that have been "hinged" on the back, to mount in a book, are worth less to considerably less, then catalog value. also remember,.........no one pays catalog value..........
but, if you have a stamp that catalogs for $500, you know you have a good one...........
looks like a nice spread of stamps, hopefully you'll have a couple good ones in there!

I am interested in buying / trading for photo albums, photo groupings, diaries, feldpost groupings, etc, from any country in the world, any army/navy, etc, mostly 20th century!!

I'm sorry to dissapoint you, but the stamps shown are not worth much. They're not worth more than a few dollars as a lot. These stamps can be found in every starting collection. Furthermore the stamps are damaged (lost perforation and corners) which doesn't add to it all.

My suggestion is that you keep them for emotional value cause this value is much higher than the few bucks.
