re Military Channel: Will they ever show a good movie?...

Post by L. Kafka »

Is it just me or is the Military Channel stuck on "shitty" when it comes to its pick of weekend movie fare? They rolled "The Green Berets" again last night. In case you missed it, that is the one where two guys in their (real life) 60s portray commando-types called "Special Forces."

Remember Bruce Cabot from the 1930s "King Kong"? Well, he's back in the jungle with the Green Berets in the '60s. Cabot is on REMF duty in the movie; injured or some happy timely @#% for the story. John Wayne apparently did a favor for his down on his luck buddy by offering Cabot a role in the movie. Wayne and Cabot were both over 60 when "The Green Berets" was shot in '68.

Aldo Ray was around 44 at the time. He plays a passable lifer sergeant, but looks more like a S-4 type than a...special force.

The only passable war movie that I can recall the Military Channel playing in recent months was "The Bridge At Remagen." Otherwise, it's been Chuck Norris "Delta Force" movies up the ass. And, yes, that is a pun.

I would like to be part of a petition to ask the Military Channel to upgrade its weekend war movie fare. I wonder what the chances are that it would run something not American-centric for a change, something like "Downfall" or "Dark Blue World."

Well, I liked The Alamo, a while back.

I guess I'm lucky I don't get to watch it much, eh?

It was the John Wayne version, so not as historically accurate. :[]

We don't normally have the Military Channel but we do get occansional free weekends with it and there's nothing I've seen on there that makes me want to have MC full-time.
