Marder Units

Post by JeffF. »

What units were Marders used in and when? Were they used in infantry division's self-propelled AT companies? Were they used in panzergrenadier regiment's (I have one organization chart that shows an AT company of Marders in SS panzergrenadier regiments but no other source confirms this). Were Marders used in 1944/45 or had they been phased out by then?
thanks.

WOW!

Thanks Ron,

That sure answers the question. I guess that organization I saw for panzergrenadier regimental AT companies must have been in error .

Hi Ron,

The master is back and he knows typing or he is the King of the Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. In french to copy and to glue.
You are still impressive. Is your Tiger still working ?

So long.

King of the Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. Not even I would retype all of that. In fact it was in an Excel spreadsheet and all I did was some adjustment to the spacing.

The Tiger is still running. In fact it snowed here yesterday and I took it out to make tiger tracks across the snow. It worked fine for about 200 feet then the snow clogged up under the panniers and skirts and the Tiger kept stalling. Now I know how the boys felt in Russia when the old winter came.

I have a Bandai 1/15 Hummel that I am detailing the driver and engine compartments but no RC. I also have a Tamiya 1/16 VW Kubelwagen that I will build to go along with the Tiger and the Hummel. They all should make a good setting for photo shoots. I can also build a few 1/16 figures to go along with the entire scene. Should look good.

The Tiger is a Das Reich beast but I shall have to give the Hummel different marking since Das Reich did not receive their first Hummels until the Spring of 1944 and these had the revised front driver/radio operator compartment whereas the Bandai kit just has the raised drivers compartment roof. I will have to find a unit that operated in the area of Das Reich just after the Kursk offensive.

I will say one thing. Working in the bigger scale is great, especially now that my eyesight has lessened with the passage of time.

I hope to do some updating on the Marder lists since my data is now a bit old and Nuts and Bolts has published two volumes on Marders that i need to cross check with my lists.

Happy New Year and best regards,

Ron

Hi Ron,

To try your Tiger in the snow, I can imagine like that :

In a cold russian winter deep in the steppe ( in fact a Seattle pavement), the lonely Tiger is chasing its prey ( the neighbor 's cat). At last the target is getting closer but let's talk the tankers
- Achtung, Panzer inbound
- Panzer ? was ist das ?
- English old model, a Valentine ( Valentine is the cat's name)
- Engage and destroy. Driver get this thing moving.
- Wundebar, the enemy is fleeing. Cowards !
- Achtung, Panzer in the back
- Turret at six o'clock, schnell.
- Target identified, a canadian armored
- Canadian ? was ist das ?
- a Labrador
- Donnerkeil, it is going to use his special antitank weapon
- Hauptmann it 's fleeing too
- Warum ?

Here Ron switched off his Tiger remote control and answered to his neighbor who asked him why Ron threw a snowball on the Labrador dog. "He was going to piss on my Tiger !"

Sorry for this bad joke ( I feel like Snoopy fighting the Red Baron on its dog house) but I like your style. A guy asked for a list of marder units. Your answer is about 10 kilometers long and you say it is not yet complete. Always impressive.

So long

There were a few regimental AT Coys. with Marder. EG PGD GD 1Sep43 both 19th Coys. in Gren. and Fusilier Regts. had Marder, 5 and 6 respectively. Also 1Sep44 2 and 2 respectively different coys. though.

HG PD 1Sep43. 11th Coys. of PGR's 1 and 2 were Marder coys. 0 and 4 respectively. Also 6/PzAA HG was Marder Coy. 1 vehicle, although Coy. was being disbanded.

There may be more but I can't remember.

Hello to all :D; a little more...................

Sd Kfz 131- Marder II in action!

The 7.5cm PaK 40 was to be installed on the chassis of the Pz Kw II, as the proposed new gun was too large to be accommodated in the turret of this tank it was decided to the construction of an armored compartment open at the top, in which would be installed the cannon, the vehicle resulting from this conversion was called 7.5cm Pak 40/2 auf Fahrgestell Pz Kw II more popularly known as Marder II.

Hello to all :D; a little more...................

The Panzerjäger in action.

In the Marder II Sd Kfz 132 the gun crew were operating behind the shield (just 10 mm/0.39 in thick), at great height, was woefully under-protected. The overall height of the first Marder II was also a concern. It made an easy target, and the 15 mm (0.59 in) side protection did not help either.

201 (185 according to another source, although 201 is the figure commonly accepted) Ausf.Ds and Es were converted between April 1942 and June 1943.
