Hey guys!

The picture that appears on page 67 of the Concord book "Panther" is misidentified as being in Luxembourg. This might be the cause of some confusion. The same picture appears on page 14 and page 55 of the Osprey Title "Ardennes 1944: Peiper and Skorzeny". This location is stated as "near the Warche Bridge in Malmedy". It also notes that this is the only Panther to reach the Northern bank of the Ambleve River at Malmedy, during the attack by Panzer Brigade 150 on December 21. The text also refers to La Falize and the Route De Falize near Malmedy.

In the text on pages 7-14 and on the chart on page 5 it mentions that Panzer Brigade 150 was supposed to be equipped with 22 Panthers and 14 Sturmgeschutze but went into action badly under-equipped with only 5 Panther and 5 Sturmgeschutze. These were converted to look like U.S. vehicles. I notice that on page 66 and page 68 of the Concord book it says that 10 Panthers were converted. Pehaps this is a mistake as the mistake about Luxembourg appears in this same book.

I hope this helps,

Cheers,

Wolfkin

Resurrecting an old thread:

The photo originally shown is of the Panther M10 knocked out by Pvt. Francis Currey near the site of the paper factory on the outskirts of Malmedy. (You can see the chimney in the background. The house that is seen standing next to the Panther no longer exists, this part of Malmedy having seen a radical chnge of use over interceding years.

During the action Currey is credited with taking 3 Panthers, Lt. Albert Snyder took out an initial Panther before Currey took over the Bazooka from him.

As mentioned in an earlier thread there are also pictures of two further Panther M10's knocked out at Falize, the other side of the Warche stream as well as a fourth by the Warche.

This last one I'd not seen before, very useful for modellers who'd like to attempt a build of a Skorzeny Panther M10 - as I did some time past...

The other known Panther M10, disabled near the railway bridge between Falize and Malmedy:

The two Falize Panther./M10's were only a matter of a few hundred yards apart when they were knocked out.

Here's a photo of the Stug:

This one was knocked out/abandoned near Gerimont, this is a hamlet outside Malmedy, incidentally just off the road running up to Baugnez and the crossroads, seen of "that" incident.

Another Panther M10 photo:

Hope they are of interest.
