Veterans and soldiers of II.Abt./SS-Pz.Rgt.1 1942-1980

Post by Thomas V. »

Hello everybody,

I recently got a hold of several photos/documents compiled after the war by several LAH veterans from II.Abt./SS-Pz.Rgt. 1. The officers are easily to research but I'm interested if anyone here has additional information on the soldiers and Unterführer that appear. I would assume not everybody was per say in the Pz.Rgt., based on the uniforms I assume some were in the Pz.Gren.Rgt. or even the Aufkl.Abt. of the division. Using arcane kung-fu skills (just kidding, just deduction actually) I managed to more or less find out who survived the war and more or less which unit the named persons were in. I know it's looking for a needle in a large haystack but I thought I'd give it a try - I'm not a LAH-specialist at all.
  • SS-Schütze (1942) Kostal (survived the war)
SS-Schütze (1942) de Bodavilla (fate unknown)
    SS-Strm. (1944) Sengpiel (II.Abteilung, survived)
    SS-Schütze (1943) Röße (II.Abteilung, survived)
    SS-Rttf. (1944) E. Bremer (or Brehmer?) unknown
    SS-Strm. (1945) K. Friedrich (II.Abteilung, fate unknown)
    SS-Strm. (1945) W. Weber (II.Abteilung, fate unknown)
    SS-Oscha. Schuster (II.Abteilung, survived)
SS-? Tutscheck (survived, very involved in Treffen)
    SS-Schütze (1942) Schürmann (gefallen, II.Abteilung)
    SS-? E. Kirstein (Kradzug/Stab/SS-Pz.Rgt.1)
I don't think that the post-war reunions were related to HIAG or the Kameradschaft I.SS-Panzerkorps, it seems more like an informal circle of old friends meeting once or twice or year and otherwise keeping in touch through letters.

And on that note: good evening and good night.

Additional question/riddle:

SS-Oberscharführer dr. Peter Haußer was killed in action on 31.07.1943 at Stepanowka. He had already been with II.Abteilung/SS-Pz.Rgt.1 since summer 1942 in France, when the unit was formed. However, at that date the LSSAH was already on it's way to Italy. The offensive at Kursk was over for II. SS-Panzerkorps and the place, Stepanowka, seems to be along the Mius - in the "Das Reich" sector during the the efforts to eradicate the Russian bridgehead there.

So, did Haußer got transferred to "Das Reich" when the LSSAH left Russia?
