Meldestaffel (Messenger) vehicles ?

Post by RJH57 »

Not much detail on SS-Unterscharführer Josef Rölleke (23 August 1924 - 6 October 2011)
EK II (Iron Cross 2nd Class): 27.8.1943
EK I (Iron Cross 1st Class): 21.10.1943
RK (Knights Cross): 16.6.1944
NCO in charge of Messenger Group (Meldestaffelführer), III Battalion, 5.SS-Pz.Gren Regiment, 3.SS-Pz Div "TOTENKOPF".
No dates on his German Cross in Gold or the Close Combat Badge (German: "Nahkampfspange") in Silver.

What sort of vehicles (all motorcycles ?) would be assigned to a Battalion Messenger Group (Meldestaffel) and used by the Kradmelder (dispatch riders) ?

Vehicles in the Meldestaffel were theoretically: 6 Radfahrer, 2 Fahrer mit S-Krad, 2 fahrer mit B-Krad and 1 Fahrer driving the Kommandeurs-Pkw.

In truth, there were several makes, models, and types of all vehicles in the unit.
