Hello to all :D; thanks Prosper . More...........................................

German shipyards and the evolution of the U-bootwaffe (1932-1939). Type IX C.

On August 7, 1939, and under the military reinforcement of the Kriegsmarine, due to Plan Z, was granted to the shipyard Deschimag AG Weser, Bremen the contract for the construction of ten Type IX C U boats derived from the previous Type IX B. These units were from U 66 to 68 (former U 122 to 124) and from U 125 to 131; Until the end of 1939 this shipyard was to build the following units from U 153 to 160 and from U 171 to 176 (they would enter into service in 1941).

With the beginning of the war, a program was started that looked for building 24 units of the Type IX C yearly. Therefore, two other shipyards joined the effort to build U boats of Type IX C for Deschimag AG Weser, Bremen, these were the shipyard Seebeckwerft, Geestemünde, U 161 to 166 and the shipyard Deutsche Werft AG, Hamburg- Finkenwerder from U 501 to 524. All would enter into service from 1941 onwards.

Basically, the difference with the previous version was a further increase in the fuel capacity to 207.51 tons. To achieve this, a more efficient way of accommodating the fuel tanks in the space between the two hulls was sought. In this way the autonomy increased by about 1,500 to 1,800 nautical miles.

In total 54 units of Type IX C were built (till JUly 1942) and in the construction of this type of U boats three shipyards intervened, the Deschimag AG Weser, Bremen with 24 units; The Seebeckwerft, Geestemünde with six units and Deutsche Werft AG, Hamburg-Finkenwerder with 24 units.

Hello to all :D; more...........................................

German shipyards and the evolution of the U-bootwaffe (1932-1939). Type XI.

The inclusion of this type which was not finalized obeys, unlike the other projects, that its construction was ordered specifically to a shipyard. The concept that led to the design of this type of U boats was a craft that could carry out the cruiser war (a corsair). For this she had to be heavily armed and able to fight at long distances with an auxiliary cruiser or a flotilla leader (destroyer). For this, it was equipped with four 127 mm guns (originally planned 150 mm) mounted on two double turrets, AA artillery and even a small recce plane Ar-231 that would be manually mounted on top deck.

The updated version of the Flottenbauprogramms of November 1, 1938, contemplated the construction of seven Type XI units. However, the subsequent occupation of the yard reduced the number to four by mid-December. The construction contract was issued as part of Plan Z on January 17, 1939, at Deschimag AG Weser, Bremen. These were from U 112 to 115 with work number from 977 to 980. They would be destined to the 20. U-Flotille, based in Wilhelmshaven. However with the beginning of the hostilities the contract was annulled.

Hello to all :D; more...........................................

German shipyards and the evolution of the U-bootwaffe (1932-1939). Type II D.

In conjunction with the new Types X (minelayer), XI (artillery cruiser) and XII (fleet U boat), a new 300 ton U boat Type XIII was designed as a Type II successor. However after the cancellation of Type XIII appeared as an alternative the construction of a new small U boat but with greater autonomy. To achieve this was taken Type II C to which additional tanks were attached to the hull bands, resulting in the latest version called Type II D. These improvements allowed Type II D in the first months of the war, including operating in the Atlantic Ocean. After 1941, no more Type II units were built. On September 25, 1939 the shipyard Deutsche Werke Kiel AG was commissioned to build a lot of 16 Type II D units, of which 14 entered service in 1940 and the last two in 1941. These submersibles were from U 137 To 152.

In the construction of the 16 Type II D submersibles, a single shipyard, the Deutsche Werke Kiel AG, intervened.
