Did German marines serve directly under the command of the Kriegsmarine, the Navy, or were they separate from naval command? Did German marines take part in any land combat actions?
What role if any do German marines have today with the Bundesmarine? What are their numbers? What is their emblem look like?
What was the manpower numbers of German marines?...
What was the manpower numbers of German marines?...

Hello
Could you explain to us what you mean by german marines?? Per sé there were no Kriegsmarine marines. Just a few formations which probably could be comparable in a wider sense.

"naval infantrymen": marines...
I seem to recall that the German navy of WWII had a few units of "marines," not armed sailors but naval infantrymen.

Re: What was the manpower numbers of German marines?...
Hello
The units discussed in the link are in my oppinion far away from what can be named "Marines". Mostly these were superfluent Nvy units at the end of the war with little to no infantristic training and experience. Their combat value was low and just a result of the circumstances that they had to fight as normal infantry.
In opposite the so called Marinestosstruppkompanie was a real navy fighting unit which was well trained and trained for the purpose of landings and commando missions. Maybe you do a web and forum search for "Marinestosstruppkompanie" and Marinestosstruppabteilung. You will find some information. If you need more let me know.
