Hello,
I own a wedding photoalbum of an Oberleutnant Zur See, his name is Günter Werner Schmidt.
Among his awards are the High Seas Fleet War Badge , the Minesweepers Badge and the E1 and EK2.
Although I couldn't find any information about him, on Google I found a link between him and the "Sub Casher UJ2209".
Could someone explain more about that?

Re: Questions about an Oberleutnant Zur See.
I only found that UJ 2209 (formerly the french Minerva) belonged to 22. U-Jagd-Flottille and was sunk in an allied air attack on Livorno on 16 March 1944. I don't know if Schmidt was still the vessel's commander.

Thanks!Fahrdienstleiter wrote:I only found that UJ 2209 (formerly the french Minerva) belonged to 22. U-Jagd-Flottille and was sunk in an allied air attack on Livorno on 16 March 1944. I don't know if Schmidt was still the vessel's commander.
I looked a bit further and thought about that maybe he was mentioned more under only "Günter Schmidt" than his whole name "Günter Werner Schmidt".
I found a quite sucessfull man who's name was also Günter Schmidt, maybe it's the same person.
If he is the same man he was awarded the German Cross In Gold on the 2nd of October 1943, his rank was Kapitäntleutnant, Torpedooffz. Zerstörer “Z 24”
That would mean that he was promoted to Kapitäntleutnant between the 10th of April 1943 and the 2nd of Ocbtober 1943.
I also found something regarding the 2. Torpedoboot-Flottille, between May 1943 untill September 1943 Kapitäntleutnant Günter Schmidt was Kommandant.

But the entry in the Marinearchiv Forum that you mentioned earlier says that G.W. Schmidt was still commanding UJ 2209 as an Oberleutnant in September 1943.
