Kreigsmarine, Frida Peters.

Post by John McCready »

Hello All, My first post here on Feldgrau.net, great site!!!!.

I am looking for any information regarding a ship named Frida Peters. My friend said he served on her sometime in the early '60s and that she was a captured Kreigsmarine vessel fitted with bow torpedo tubes. She was being used by the Royal Naval Aux. Service as a test torpedo recovery vessel under the name "Sereptor".

Any information about her or a photo would be greatly appreciated. I can find no mention of her anywhere, perhaps he has the name wrong...

FRIEDA PETERS

Post by Peter K. »

Hi JOHN !

Reading your description, I think you mean the experimental ship FRIEDA PETERS!

The following data are from Gröner, vol. 4:

building yard: Lübecker Maschinenbau Ges., Lübeck
building number: 158
owner: Hinrich Peters, Hamburg
465 BRT, about 750 t, 45,86 x 8,35 x 3,2 m, 380 PSe for 8 kn,
height 3,75 , 4 compartments, 1 deck, 1 x KHD 6cyl. diesel engine,
750 tdw, 23 t of fuel, crew 10

launched in august 1920, commissioned as experimental ship for engines, called "L.M.G.", later renamed as FRIEDA PETERS, since 03.01.1940 coal supply ship on station north, since 02.04.1943 torpedo experimental ship at T.V.A. Gotenhafen, since 16.01.1946 British SAREPTA, since 1956 torpedo rescue ship "TVR", stroken around 1958

A small sketch is available at Gröner, vol. 5, page175, clearly showing 2 torpedo tubes at the bow.
If you want, I could scan it for you!

Peter,
I am truly amazed at the speed of your reply. Please, If you could, scan the photo for me and I will print it out for my friend, I can assure you he will be very happy to have any kind of image/photo of his old ship. Thank you for the time and trouble you have taken on my first posting to feldgrau.net, I really am delighted at the information you have supplied for us. Once again, Thank you.

Hello JOHN !

I´m glad, that I was of some help for you and your friend!

The only thing I want to add is, that the first commissioning of the ship as "L.M.G." took place on 30.08.1921.

I´ll send you this small scan the following days - please be patient!
