Unknown Attack

Post by Peter K. »

Hi RONNY!

I found out two possibilities:

On November 10, 1941, 17.30, the Greek sub GLAVKOS (Arslanoglou) reported an torpedo attack on a steamer of about 3000 BRT near Iraklion. After German sources the steamer NORBURG (2392 BRT) was attacked by torpedo at 17.45 near or at Candia/Creta and was badly damaged beyond repair. This ship was aleady torpedoed on September 9, 1941, by the Britsh suB TORBAY and again on November 24, 1941, by the British sub TRIUMPH.

The second possibility would be the German steamer ITHAKA (1773 BRT). On November 10, 1941, 04.07, the British sub PROTEUS (Nicolay) reported the sinking of a steamer of about 3000 BRT by torpedo of Milos. After German sources the ship was attacked at 07.07 by torpedo 2 nm SW of Milos and was sunk with 469 deaths (!!!).

I hope, this will help!

Greetings from Austria
