Kriegsmarine in the middle East

Post by addenbrool »

I am conducting research regarding a German POW named Corssen (Corben).
My search has led me to the Middle East where it seems this man was captured by the Americans, Unfortunately no solid dates.
Does anybody have a definative list or information in respect to Kriegsmarine boats/units that may have been stationed in that area.
regards

Hello izi.

62 uboats served from September 1941 to May of 1944. Here is a page that lists all uboats that served in the Mediterranean Sea:
http://www.uboat.net/ops/med-all.htm

I had a look through the list and the following had encounters with American surface vessels, the most logical if taken prisoner.
U 73, U 371, U 375, U 450, U 593, U 616, U 960

Keep in mind though that he could have been picked up by an American ship but the uboat being sunk by the British. So any of those boats on the list might be worth looking into. You also might want to post the question on their forum as well, these guys are friendly and know a lot on the subject:

By the way, I have some books ordered and one of them is: "U-boats in the Mediterranean 1941-1944", Lawrence Paterson, ISBN: 1861762909, Greenhill Bopoks, 2007. I can see if I find anything of interest in this book or if I can give any additional information on a specific uboat later.
