U boot modelling question

Post by Professer »

I am assembling a Revell 1/72 scale Type VIIc class Uboot model and am wondering about whether or not there was a muzzle cap on the end of the large deck cannon or did they leave it open to the sea. I am trying to model this kit as accurate as I can and any help will be greatly appreciated!! Also, if anyone knows who makes a model crew for a U boot in this scale , that would be great to get the name of the manufacturer! Thanx in advance!!

yes there was a muzzle cap or plug. In some pics you see this cable or cord wound around and down the barrel. As for figures I some online If I find the link again I will post it

Professor, I can't remember if it was this forum, or AHF, but do a site search on both. Someone built a U-Boot, and that crew question was answered as I recall.

Tom, it was me that answered it. Professor, search through http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/ there's definitely someone made a KM crew in 1/72 for exactly this purpose! Out of production now bu the specialist shops and Ebay should be able to help.

There was a plug, a tampion, in the end of the barrel, and at least one major incident when a U-Boat crew attempted to shell the Shell depot on Aruba in the Carribean. They forgot to remove the tampion and the gun burst, killing two ratings and seriously injuring the second opfficer. He had to be beached in a neutral port in Central America, he later lost his leg.

Thanx for all of your help!!! I have finished the U boat and it resides in a small museum in a friends basement that contains many other models and his ww2 German and Russian uniform collection. I'm heading over there soon and I take pictures and post them!! Thank you all, again.
