Sail yachts seized in Gdynia (Gothenhafen) around 1940.

Post by jpdesm »

Hello
Several sailboats have apparently been seized by german occupation troops (Kriegsmarine ?) in Gdynia (Gothenhafen), near Gdansk (Danzig) in 1939 or 1940.
Does anybody have information about this ? Unit taking the boats, people involved, journey from Poland to Germany ?
What happened to the boats after ?

I know for sure about two units captured by Germans:
"Zawisza Czarny" (385 BRT) was captured by Germans in 1939, transported to Fluisburg, and used as "Schwarze Husar" to 1943. This Yacht was abandoned in to end of war. He was so damaged and after war was sunk near Gdynia in 1948.

The second yacht was was much smaller "Junak" (28 BRT) destroyed in Gdynia 1945.

I can't find any info about any others S/Y 1939-1940 seized by Germans (most of them were on journey). Info about smaller units is not available for me.

This one has been photographied on a "gothenhafen" postcard.

As such small boats (< 10 m) have no military use, they must have been seized just for leisure ...
