Kriegsmarine in Action on Atlantic Canada

I've read about U-Boats landing on shores of Labrador but not much information. What were they doing there? Were there operations and plans at Newfoundland too?

A U-Boat left a weather radar apparatus in Labrador. Apparently it sent 1 or 2 signals then did not work again. It was recoverd in the 80's and is sitting in the War Museum in Ottawa. I do not know the U-Boat # though.

Yes this was an automatic weather station named Wetterfunkgerät-Land-26 (WFL-26), developed by Siemens. The station was placed October 22 1943 on the coast of Labrador at 60°5'N, 64°24'W. This mission was done by U-537 under Kapitänleutnant Peter Schrewe.

The weather station was discovered by the coast guard in 1981. To avoid suspicion some of the containers holding the equipment had been marked: "Canadian Weather Service"

Here is a picture from the museum:

Paint scheme seems different from what I remember it. It was a lighter green & white and Canada was with a K not a C.
Thanks for the photo.
