Hello,
U It. 1-6 were transport boats of the "R" class. The German Navy abandoned them in Jan. 1944 as the chanches for them to cross Gibraltar and to survive the Allied ASW new tactics were considered almost zero.
U It. 7-16 and 19-20 were attack boats of the "Flutto" class. They too were abandoned early in 1944 as Germany believed it would be a waste of time and resources to complete some of them and the new submarine building programs for the Med. were based on the Type XXIII.
U It. 17-18 were small (100 t) Italian boats of the "CM" class. The German Navy give them back to the Fascist Republic Navy late 1943 as the Kriegsmarine considered them quite unuseful, like the midgets of the "CB" class (36 t) which were never included in the German programs and delivered yet in Autumn 1943 to the RSI X MAS of the Marina Nazionale Repubblicana.

Re: German U-Boote former Italian
UIT-24 and UIT-25 operated a regular shuttle of German goods from Penang, Singapore and Batavia to Kure in Japan. U-boats were slipped at Singapore to retrieve cargo stowed in keel boxes etc and this was then shipped to Japan in UIT boats. After the war they were scuttled in Suido Sound.
