KMS Seydlitz

Post by TPMM »

Hi. Does anybody know what happened with German carrier (former heavy cruiser) KMS Seydlitz after being captured in Koenigsberg by Red Army?

It is generally agreed the Hull was scrapped post-War

There was not much left to salvage , by the Russians in 1945 .

The Ship was thoroughly Damaged in the Timber Harbour

by Exposive Charges detonated by the Germans in late 1944.

( when the Russians seemed on the brink of capturing Koenigsberg )

It is proven that there was only the Funnel left sticking up ,

and just the bare Hull - in 1944

no other work was done , except a catwalk bridge

or walkway

This was fitted before the Funnel for navigation purposes during her

movement by Tugs by the Germans .
