III./ KG 4 "General Wever" - Poland 1939.

Hello to all :D; a new little story.................

The III. Gruppe of Kampfgeschwader 4 "General Wever" - September 1939.

The III. / KG 4 was formed on May 1, 1939 in Nordhausen / Thuringia from the III. / KG 253 and completed its training in the summer of 1939, before being transferred to Langenau for the beginning of the Polish campaign on September 25, 1939. The group operated with aircrafts He-111P, under the command of the Luftlotte IV.

The III. Gruppe of Kampfgeschwader 4 "General Wever" - September 1939.

Actions...............

On September 1, 1939 60 He-111P belonging to the I. / KG 4 and the III. / KG 4 took off from Langenau and escorted by Bf-110 fighters of the I. / ZG 76 flew towards Rakoniewice where dropped 48 tons of bombs. In the aerodrome were destroyed 39 Polish aircrafts, although most of them of liaison and training. The II. / KG 4 (32 He-111P) participated in the Polish campaign flying bombing missions from the airfield at Oels, having as it objectives Lemberg, Demblin, Krakau, Lublin, Radom. Oberstleutnant Erdmann's Group, flew with its He-111P about 500 kilometers through a stretch of bad weather on Slovakia toward its objective, the airfield of Lemberg and unloaded there 22 tons of bombs on hangars and taxiways.

On September 2, 1939 the He-111P of the 4. / KG 4 (II. Gruppe) bombed the aircraft factory in Lublin and a munitions factory in Kamienna Skarzysko. The III. / KG 4 bombing military training facilities in Deblin.

Actions...............

On September 4, 1939, aircrafts He-111P of the KG 4 bombed the airfield in Kuciny.

On September 6, 1939, the III. / KG 4 supported the German Army's advance towards Warsaw.

On September 7, 1939 the I. / KG 4 escorted by fighters Bf-109D of JGr 102, flew to bomb a bridge over the Vistula River.

On September 9, 1939 71 He-111P from KG 4 were directed to bomb a railway station in Lublin, this time escorted by aircrafs of the I. / ZG 76.

The III. Gruppe of Kampfgeschwader 4 "General Wever" - September 1939.

Actions...............

On September 10, 1939, the III. / KG 4 bombed ground targets during the Battle of Bzura. The Battle of Bzura was the biggest battle of the campaign.

On September 15, 1939 27 He-111P of the I. / KG 4 bombed a Polish airfield in Kruszyn area.

In total the II. / KG 4 conducted 19 air missions on Polish territory. By the end of September 1939 the group was back in Erfut-Bindersleben.

On September 20, 1939 the Group's HQ retreated to Germany and on September 22 did the same the III. / KG 4.
