Mint Condition Leather Flying Cap

Post by DennisH »

Dear Forum Members,
A former student of mine brought in a bunch of her grandfather's WWII (U.S.) mementos, and included in the box they were in was a positively MINT condition German leather flying cap, complete with throat microphones, ear piece(s) plug in, et al. I'm guessing it was never worn, because it has no signs of staining, sweat or other wear & tear on the inside fleece material. In addition, the manufacturer tag is 100% clear and readable, again indicating little or no actual wear. The outside leather is still soft, supple, uncracked, and save for a tiny bit of mildew smell (hardly any) it looks like it just came out of a Luftwaffe supply storeroom.

Any guess as to what it might fetch on the collector's market? I told my former student I'd try to so some research for her.

Many thanks in advance!

Below are links to the two best and most active web sites for collectors of World War II militaria items. Each has one or more sections devoted exclusively to the Luftwaffe. There are members at both who would be able to give you the very best estimate of the flying helmet’s value.
