tag No ----> identity

Post by Dejan_GO »

Hello all,
I sincerelly hope that someone could help me.

I have a Kriegsmarine number tag which as far as I know was a unique identification for all enlisted soldiers.

Is there a way to find out the identity of tag No 11427/43K holder???

Any clues or suggestions welcome. Thanks and regards.

You say tag No and Kriegsmarine, does the Erkennungsmarke writes 'Kriegsmarine' and/or is there also a letter N?

11427 = Nummer der Erkennungsmarke (dogtag number)
43 = Entrance (year) into the navy
K = Identification letter of the career, could be Küstendienst (coast-service on the land)

Please correct me if I'm wrong

I haven't seen any letter N on the tag. The tag's holder was actually on the torpedoboot TA 45 when she was hit and sunk in april 44.

The tag's photo can be seen here

Anyone knows of an archive where the identity could be checked???

Thanks and regards.

The TA-45 was sunk in the Morlacca channel during a battle with British MTBs on 13.04.1945 not '44.

Also see the next pic of the same dogtag;

These personal items – a small medallion with the photos of a young woman and a girl, a magnifying glass and Kriegsmarine dogtag with serial number – were left to the Vrbnik parish priest by one of the survivors before the partisans led him away.

I know the story and i took the tag's photo from where you post a link.

Actually the story was compiled by Danijel Frka, who I know and we work together.

The question was whether someone can fill in the missing detail. Is it possible to trace the man's identity from having the tag No only??? Where this can be done???

Still looking for some clues or suggestions.

Thanks and regards.
