Who is this oberstleutnant?

This is an original photo taken of Knights Cross Recipient: Oberstleutnant Heidschmidt.

I asked Otto to post the pic on these forums and he gracefully did so. Yes--I paid a high price for this photo and well worth it. No--I dont care who downloads it--what could be done anyway if I wanted to do something about it?

All I know is, that IM the owner of the original Heidschmidt photo. It is also a Heinrich Hoffmann photo.

Another I hope to soon see posted on the forums is one of Oberleutnant zur See, Klaus Feldt. He is being awarded his Knights Cross by none other than Grand Admiral Erich Raeder.

Oberstleutnant Heidschmidt

Post by Glenn »

He is listed in the 1944 Rangliste as a regular Major (1st Feb 43) with subsequent promotion to Oberstleutnant on the 1st of October 1944. His peacetime regiment in 1939 was Infanterie-Regiment 94.

The significant thing is that he is not listed as a regular commissioned officer in 1939 which probably means one of two things. Either he was a reserve officer who converted to regular service or a professional NCO commissioned early in the war.

Glenn
