Jason do you have any more information on this person. He was my fathers Stabsfeltwebel etc., eventually becoming the Company OIC. My mother is wondering if he is still alive? Or what eventually happened to him.

Researching the site http://www.das-ritterkreuz.de, I could find the following info about Herold:
Major Wilhelm Herold
born on 13.01.1915 in Königheim/Tauberbischofsheim
died on 14.01.1986 in Nürnberg
Ritterkreuz on 26.03.1944 as Hauptmann and Kommandeur I./GrenRgt 21
After he served in the Bundeswehr between 1956 and 31.03.1971 reaching the rank of Oberstleutnant.
